The Karnataka High Court has quashed the criminal case filed by the Gangolli Police against Sheena Poojary, an innocent rickshaw driver from Alur in Kundapura Taluk, in a matter relating to illegal stone quarrying and the theft of laterite stones from government land. The Human Rights Protection Foundation, Udupi, has assured Sheena Poojary of its full support should he wish to initiate defamation proceedings against the police officers responsible.
Sheena Poojary, a resident of Alur village in Kundapura Taluk, works as a rickshaw driver. His wife suffers from an Endosulfan-related illness and requires ongoing medical treatment, and he supports the education of his two children, both currently in college.
On 24 August 2025, one Uday Shetty, also of Alur, hired Sheena Poojary's rickshaw to travel to Gangolli. Uday Shetty asked Sheena Poojary to wait outside the Gangolli Police Station while he went inside.
